Q: What kinds of COVID-19 precautions do you have in place?
A: We want to keep everyone safe, so we will be following CDC and New Mexico Department of Health guidelines.
*Dancers are asked NOT to come to class if they have ANY of the following symptoms of illness, including: Fever or chills, Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or body aches, Headache, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Congestion or runny nose, Nausea or vomiting.
Q: Do I need to have a partner to take your classes?
A: For the line dance class, you do not need a partner. For the social ballroom and Latin dance classes, you are welcome to come and learn the steps and figures as a solo dancer, but we will not be rotating partners due to COVID-19 risks.
Q: What if I have two left feet?
A: That's okay! Walking is the first step in dancing. If you can walk, you can learn how to dance!
Q: I am so uncoordinated! I don't have any sense of rhythm.
A: Remember, your heart beats to a rhythm, so everyone has rhythm inside of them! The point of our dance instruction is not perfection, but to have fun!
Q: Do I need to buy special shoes?
A: You do not need to have special dance shoes to take our classes. That being said, some shoes are easier to dance in than others. Wearing clogs or flip-flops can make it harder to learn the steps. Tennis shoes can work, but the rubber soles tend to grab the floor and make it hard to turn. Shoes with a leather or suede sole work best.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear clothing that allows you to move comfortably. Dancing can be a good workout, so keep in mind that you might work up a sweat! For that reason, we recommend you leave your tank tops at home. In most social ballroom dances, you and your partner will be dancing close together and no one wants to brush up against a sweaty armpit!
Q: How soon can I start?
A: Our group classes in Greeley are ongoing. New sessions start every month. Some people join us just for one month, and others prefer to sign up for three-month sessions (at a discounted rate). Whatever works for you!
Q. Why should I learn to dance?
A: The number one reason to learn to dance is because it is fun! But if you really need another reason, it is also good for you! Studies have shown that social dance is good for your physical fitness, your coordination and balance, and your sense of well-being. In fact, a recent study by Colorado State University suggested that social dance may offset the effects of aging in the brain!
